Project Verification
Verification is an assessment by an independent third-party of the GHG Project once the project is underway. Verification is intended to assess the calculations of GHG project reductions/removals using ISO 14064-3 standards to perform the verification. Verification typically occurs periodically throughout the project, prior to obtaining credit for the reductions since the last verification.

The actual scope and level of assurance of the verification may vary from project to project and must be agreed upon by the Verifier and Project Developer before the assessment begins. Areas that may be addressed in the scope of the verification include an assessment of:
  • Conformance to ISO 14064 criteria
  • If discrepancies exist between claimed reductions and verification criteria
  • Depending on the materiality threshold, whether or not discrepancies may be considered material
  • Integrity of the data used to make the GHG asserting
  • Consistency to the project plan
  • The accuracy and transparency of measure project reductions compared to the baseline condition
The result of each verification is a Verification Report prepared and issued by the third party verifier. Though each report may vary in their presentation, the following elements are minimally necessary for project registered with the GHG Emission Reductions Registry:
  • Verification must be performed conforming to ISO 10464-3
  • Identification of the parties involved in performing the verification
  • Identification of the lead verifier
  • A competency statement of the verifier
  • Information describing the project’s conformity to ISO 14064-2
  • The statistical sampling plan performed
  • Results of the sampling performed
  • Identification of any discrepancies identified during the verification
  • A statement as to whether or not the verification identified any material discrepancies
  • The verification level of assurance, and
  • A signed Verification Statement by the third party verifier
